Rob and Lauren were married recently at beautiful Molenvliet Wine Estate. The wedding was amazing in terms of excitement and such amazing organization and decor. Planning a wedding in South Africa from the UK, is no small task when also running a business. However Lauren did such an amazing job, that I was quite blown away.

It was also cool, to shoot their wedding, because they know some of the people in my family and some of the guests were also my clients. Its a small world!!

The wedding was fab and so well put together, and the dirty dancing at the end….was to remember. Amazing music was by DJ Rene. Have to recommend him if you want your wedding to be a full on Party for all the guests.

Caryn & Jay wanted their portraits to be done around Table Mountain, as they live so far away in the Western Universe called the UK and want images to reflect where they came from and where they met. What made the shoot so special for me, was how important it was for them to do the portrait shoot. Whenever I shoot a wedding I always include a pre shoot so that I get to know the clients, and viceversa, and also so they get more than just wedding images of themselves, the one time they are likely to hire a photographer (now fellow photographers….thats my sales pitch…so think of your own…LOL).

Anyway, on my quest to get all my clients fithily beautiful and stinking wet, Caryn and Jay needed a bit of convincing to get in. Well im so glad they did and helped me to continue my collection of water portraits.

The big day for these two is Feb 6th. I cant wait. It will be my first wedding upon return from Dubai, which I head off to tomorrow!!

Bernard and Carmen met me at Noordhoek beach recently to do some shots around the area. If you like my work or follow my recent updates, I guess you will know by now that I love shooting in the water. I dont know what it is about the water, but I could shoot everything in it if it was possible (and if the clients were always willing!!). Im actually going to be working on a project with another super well known and talented photographer on a fashion/water series of work. I wont announce who it is just yet, but lets just say, the photographer is one of the best in SA and your sure to know him, and his amazing work. That project will be rolled out in April, and involve some other well known designers, make artists and stylists…..Its better to keep you wanting to know more…isnt it???

Anyway, Carmen and Bernard are a cool couple and willing to do whatever, so it makes it so easy to work with them, and I was up for a challenge because Carmen is also a professional photographer.

Their wedding will be later this month.

Angela and Andrew are 2 amazing people that really remind me of what true love really is. They celebrated their wedding recently after driving a landrover from Holland to Cape Town through the middle east and Africa.

I have so many beautiful images of them, so I just thought I had to share a sneak peak kind of thing from a shoot we did recently in Camps Bay.

I will be posting again soon, as I have so much beautiful work that just needs to be seen. I hate the idea of Trash the Dress!! but I guess this follows in that realm, and rather I just wanted to take photos of beautiful people in beautiful settings, that still celebrate our deepest emotion.

Martin and Gwyn are to have there wedding later this month at Gwyns family farm near Nuilspruit. It will be very cool to shoot and also an adventure to travel to the event. Im so looking forward to it all.

We decided to do the preshoot in Muizenberg. Muizenberg is such a gem, but like any other place it depends on weather, light and WIND!! It was really windy and all our equipment kind of got a full and free moisturizing treatment by the sea. IN all cases it was fine and I love the images. Hope you do too!!

The New Year….The Updates?, The Future/21 Global Icons!

South Africa Weddings Ian Mitchinson

The New Year…. Firstly, this being the first post that I have been able to make in a while, I would like to wish all a super happy new year and ofcourse I wish all the best to you, your friends and loved ones.

The Updates?, The last few months especially December, were the busiest of my life and it has been a challenge and continues to be, but the work that we have been producing I can proudly say has been some of the best ever. So we cant wait to share it with you. In the last 8 weeks we have shot close to 30 photographic assignments, and have seen almost all of South Africa (ok take that with a pinch of salt), met heads of state, portraits of some of South Africas and the worlds global Icons and shared and captured many special days all over South Africa at the best place in the world to have a wedding.

I must apologize to all who have emailed me wondering why I haven’t been updating my site as much as usual, and the simple answer is….Cause we are shooting!! Now however, my staff are all back from holidays and we are still in the swing of things, and the editing is coming along nicely, and there are thousands of images to go through. If I am super busy or not that busy I have to dedicate an equal amount of time to every editing job, so be patient because this January and February should update you all with our latest work, and completed weddings!!

The Future/21 Global Icons! Ok, so I have been shy to share this information with everyone, but as the project comes to fruition and as we prepare to travel the world for the 21 Global Icons Project capturing 234 of the worlds living global icons, I now am happy to announce the project. 21 Icons Global Project is a visual celebration of human achievement and spirit. The 21 Global Icons team has undertaken to photograph the contemporary icons of the twenty-first century, one country at a time. Twenty-one men and women of accomplishment who have profoundly influenced each nation in a positive way. Individuals who have each excelled in their chosen discipline and selflessly contributed to the national community.

The subjects will represent fields of endeavor including humanities, science, economics, politics, arts, medicine, sport, education, law and spirituality. All of them remarkable in their own right. It is hoped that the beauty, honesty and humour of this unique portrait collection will inspire the icons of tomorrow.

The 21 Icons Global Collection will serve as an indelible artistic and historic record of the men and women who shaped the foundation of the global community of the twenty-first century.

Weddings??? Will I still shoot weddings?? The answer is yes. I love shooting weddings, and even though I will be a part of this ongoing project and even though I am fully committed to the project, I will still have gaps in South Africa where I will take bookings. So if you would like to know if I am free for your day, then please let me know and I will gladly reply. Luckily, most of the travel takes place in the off season of the South African wedding season. Email me if you would like more info on wedding bookings, The 21 Global Icons Project, or Nikon Equipment.

Riandi and Pieter (portraits) University of Cape Town

Riandi and Pieter met me early early recently and we headed over to UCT. It is best to go early in the morning, no one is there and you have one of the best locations in Cape Town all to your self.

Riandi and Pieter are getting married in Early January and the reception is going to be in Sea Point, so should be really fun to have a city location to do the portraits. IM really looking forward to it and as you can see the two are amazing to photograph.

Hope you enjoy these images.

Pieter & Ryna (wedding) Kersefontein Guest House, near Velddrif. Western Cape.

Ryna and Pieter have been such a dream to shoot, they are both into a deep style of imagery that I love so much.

Ryna and Pieter were married at Kersefontein Guest House. It was my first time at the venue, and its an actual working farm ranch. It was so hot during the day but luckily cooled down later on when we were doing the portraits.

Ryn and Pieter are both artists, and I even like to think that I am too, so together we really connected and I feel captured some truly deep and symbolic portraits.

After shooting at Kersefontein, and so many other venues in the Western Cape, I have to recommend it as one of the unique venues in the Western Cape. When I say unique, I mean that it is unlike most venues that I would normally shoot at. I love shooting at all the beautiful wine farms and all the old dutch settings around the province. However Kersfontein made me feel like I was really in an old cowboy town strip. To be honest, that is pretty much what it is.

It may not be everyone’s cup of tea for a wedding venue, but if your looking for something different, Kersefontein and also Matjiesfontein are two of my top recommendations.

Rob and Lauren (Portraits) Bo Kaap

Another fine summer day in Cape Town and Rob and Lauren (AKA : La) met me at my studio for the preshoot to their wedding day on the 28th of December. Everyone says Cape Town is a small place and it is. Unless your walking around the mountain, that can take time. Anyway, Lauren went to Fourways High School in Joberg and so did my cousin. Also named Lauren. Also nick named La, or Laz!! Oh Anyway!! :)

Lauren commented on how she loved all the textures and colours of Cape Town, so I thought it couldnt be more fitting to shoot around my favourite area of Bo Kaap.

Rob and La are also part of the Wimbledon SA crowd in London, and have made the pilgrimage back for their nuptials.

Dillon and Danika (Portraits) Kalk Bay

Dillon and Danika met me the other morning, nice and early at Kalk Bay for their pre wedding portraits. Kalk Bay is usually super busy but if you go really early then there are loads of cool locations to shoot and also no one around. Atleast not on a Sunday morning. The upcoming wedding in January is to be held at the Vineyard hotel. Should be amazing. I kind of feel like the Vineyard is a constant exploration because of the gardens there. Its not actually that big but there is so much that can be done. Im looking forward to it.

Dillon and Danika are a really fun couple and it was lots of excitement abound when we were shooting. And I almost fell into the ocean with 2 Nikon D3s strapped to me..That wouldnt have been cool!

YIKES! :)
